Sounds like nerve: Most likely condition would be a pinched nerve. The nerves that supply the feet stem from nerve branches traveling from the leg. The "pinch" could be from the back at its root, but it an also be locally due to musculature. Get checked properly.

Neuropathy: Can be caused by a systemic disease like diabetes. If you are feeling pain you have to be very cautious as this could possible be a "charcot foot". So, if there is swelling or redness get off those feet. There are other causes of neuropathy like nerve compression in the back, vitamin deficiencies or side effects of medication like in chemotherapy. Excessive alcohol intake can cause neuropathy too.
