Too soon: I understand your request but you know that you may have to pay yourself, as the insurance will not pay that soon. I suspect this is the one injection and it is supposed to last. 6 months. Your physician may be able to get the prior approval but: the bottom line is that the one shot synvis in you did not last 6 months. Also if synvis does not orthovisc may not work either. Your assessment helps.

Orthovisc: If you don't get at least 6 months relief from synvisc (hylan g-f 20) injection, it is highly unlikely you would get much benefit from orthovisc injections. And unlikely your insurance would cover the expense that early after injection.

not really: They are differences in the fluids such as viscosity but the benefits are comparable. Synvisc (hylan g-f 20) is available as a single injection white orthovisc requires 3 separate injections.

Not much: Not a lot. Studies have suggested they are equally effective. Synvisc (hylan g-f 20) is available as a single shot while orthovisc requires 3 weekly injections. Synvisc (hylan g-f 20) is more viscous.
