Yes: It might be biting trauma that causes the tooth to become sensitive. Trauma of any kind can result in tooth sensitivity that does not show up as a defect in the tooth or visible on x-rays.

Tooth or gingiva?: Is the pain in the gums or within the tooth itself? Does hot or cold cause pain? If so, it's more likely a tooth situation. If no hot/cold pain, then it's likely a gum issue. Try increase brushing and flossing, rinsing with warm salt water then see dentist again.
