A member asked:

If a calorie is a calorie, why do you need to eat healthy when trying to lose weight and not just eat less food?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

You do not: If just losing weight is your aim, rather than good health, you can achieve that by reducing caloric intake and increasing exercise to raise the rate of caloric burn. Eating healthy will have the added benefit of improving your health.
