Can't happen: There are no foods that burn calories because food contains calories. The best way to lose weight is to eat less but eat healthy. If you need information about healthy diets check out www.Eatright.Org.

A 34-year-old member asked:
Do bigger people lose weight faster and better since they burn more calories?

Not necessarily: Weight loss depends on how many calories are taken in versus how many are burnt. The latter depends on both level of activity and metabolism (how efficiently one burns up calories). Some large people have low metabolism. Safe ways to increase metabolism are to become more active, build muscles by weight training and caffeine in moderation.

What causes you to burn more calories & lose weight faster?

Cross country sking: Cross-country skiing is known as the highest intensity work-out. Otherwise, interval training burns a lot of calories. There are no easy ways to burn lots of calories so don't believe anyone that tells you otherwise and tries to sell you something. Dancing like zumba may be the funnest way to burn calories.

If you just sit in a room for 24 hours and don't eat a thing, will you lose weight/burn calories?

Dr. Heidi Fowler answered

You will continue to: Burn calories. But if you don't eat then you will go into starvation mode and your metabolic rate will slow. As soon as you start eating again - you will regain weight.

Do i need to burn more calories then i eat to lose weight?

Yes: It's simple math. Your weight is controlled by total calories. Eat 3500 more than you burn off and your body will store those as weight. Burn off 3500 that you don't eat and your body will break down one pound of fat to provide those calories for your metabolism. It's not rocket science. Don't get your medical information from friends, tv or the internet.
