Not usually: Screws are generally left in place after bunion surgery. Sometimes the screw head is prominent and can be irritated by shoes. Occasionally, even after the bone is healed, there can be a vague aching sensation. This is because the screw and bone flex differently. These would be cases where you would want to consider removal. This is often done through a small incision under local anesthesia.

No: If it is not bothering you in any way, leave it. If you did not want any fixation left inside, a k-wire is an option which sticks out of the foot and is removed after a certain time period, .

Only if pain. : Every surgeon is different, but most will leave the hardware in place unless you have problems with it (pain) after you've healed.

Normally: A screw remains in the foot. We only remove it if it backs up or causes pain. Why go through another surgery if not needed.
