Change life style: There is no perfect diet, as you can loose weight on temporary basis on any diet, but will gain back all weight loss unless you bring about changes in your lifestyle. Bottom line, eat less that your stomach full every time and walk at least 45 minutes per day, you are sure to loose more than 15 lbs in a month and keep it off.

No perfect diet: There is no such thing as the perfect diet. Otherwise, all 7 billion people would be doing it. If on an indian diet, cut out all sweets, most dairy including paneer and yogurt, no fried foods, absolutely no ghee!, no soda, and very limited processed/pre-cooked/restaurant foods. Cook at home simple dishes with very little oil (no butter) and very little bread (chapati) or rice. Drink water.
