Need more info: Do not know the etiology of the CKD or the rate of progression. I would imagine that your nephrologist has prepared you for the possible need for dialysis and/or transplantation in the future. If not you need to sit down face to face and have a lengthy conversation. Good luck.

CKD stage 3: You need to be seen by a nephrologist (n) for an accurate answer. Your egfr is an estimate. You need to have a 24 hour for creatinine clearance and protein, as well as having some blood work taken. You may have hypertension and/or diabetes. If you have both, your kidneys may not last as long as if you had hypertension. After the n reviews your data, a more informed answer can be given to you.
