A healthy lifestyle: Eat nutritious meals in moderation. Sleep sufficiently. Exercise regularly. Also develop sedentary interests that will stimulate and entertain you. Engage in a variety of social activities that benefit your community and allow you to develop relationships with a diverse group of people - mixed ages & circumstances. Build a meaningful love relationship. Repair or let go of prior negatives. Be lucky.

Depression: It depends on what kind of way you're looking for. Would you be willing to try natural remedies? I prefer spiritual approach where i talk to god in prayer and have a way to pour my heart and get comfort from reading the bible and fellowshiping with other believers. It's worked miracles for me!

Help still needed: There are ways to work on depression that don't involve typical pharmaceuticals, but you need a good evaluation first. For instance, botanical medicines like st. John's wort have good effectiveness in mild-moderate depression, but much less with more severe cases. Also there is aerobic exercise -- as effective as antidepressants. Classical homeopathy with an experienced homeopath can help also.
