RecogniseBasis ?Fear: When not scared, people routinely swallow pieces of food typically much larger than the vast majority of tablets ; pills, one of the reasons manufacturers choose the sizes they do. However, based on whatever subconsciously remembered reasons, if we feel scared of chocking, being poisoned or punished in association with swallowing something, then we block, become very protective ; wont swallow.

Interesting: This is usually a psychological issue, since an organic (physical cause for difficulty taking these is seldom present. Try placing them on your tongue, getting a large glass of water and drinking it as if it is the most delicious thing you have ever tasted, focusing only on the drink. It is like how you get to carnegie hall. Practice, practice, practice. Good luck. Good question.

Can't take tab. Cap.: If you can swallow solid food and not tablet or capsule, then it is plain psychiatric problem. Have sessions with psychiatrist/psychologist. If you have problem swallowing food, then you need video fluoroscopic modified barium swallow study. Please talk this with your doctor. Good luck.
