It happens: More info is needed to answer you correctly. General dentist or specialist? How long ago? What treatment has been proposed? Although compromised, the tooth can still be restored. Consult with an endodontist as to how to remedy the situation.

Yes: If there is something in the canal of your root it needs to be removed or the treatment is likely to fail.
