A 71-year-old female asked:

Bottom tooth, infected root. took doxy 100 mg for 7 days. tooth is hurting. tooth was drilled and temp crown on it. root canal will be done. does the pain mean the infection is till there or can the tooth just hurt as it needs a root canal?

The antibiotics you took helped control the infection, they did not resolve the problem. The necrotic nerve in the tooth is still releasing toxins into the bone resulting in the inflammation and pain. Once the root canal therapy is started and then completed, the bone will heal and you can continue with the prosthetics.

Teeth don't just hurt. There has to be a reason. May be active infection, trauma, fracture, etc. Please report symptoms to yourntreating Dentist to help him/her provide you with appropriate care.
