Yes: Teeth can move over a lifetime unless you wear a retainer forever. Also the health and maintenance of the supporting structures like the bone and periodontal structures (gums) will affect the amount of potential movement.

Orthodontics: Yes, i assume you had the overbite fixed through orthodontics. After braces have been removed patients are advised to wear retainers for as long as they can. The longer the patient wears the retainers, the less 'memory' the teeth will retain. Memory is the tendency of the teeth to want to shift back into their pre-treatment position.

Relapse: Teeth in bone are not like steel post in concrete. Your body has a whole new skeleton every 7-8 years. If a malocclusion is corrected, retainers are required after the correction . If retainers are not worn exactly as directed, relapse can occur. I recommend that all Orthodontic patients wear retainers 24/7 for a year, then every night for as long as they want their teeth to stay straight.
