Takes time: I assume you have an external canal ear infection. Hopefully you were given drops to be continuing after you left the doctor. However, it takes time, usually several days, for the swelling and inflammation to go down and relief of symptoms. You can try anti-inflammatory pain meds like Ibuprofen in the interim, and if symptoms are not improving in 48-72 hours, recheck with your doctor.

Otitis externa (OE): Oe is an inflammation or infection of the external auditory canal and usually represents an acute bacterial infection of the skin of the ear canal but can also be caused by other bacteria, viruses, or fungal infection. Treatment includes management of pain, removing debris from the ear canal and instilling topical medications to control swelling (cortisone) and infection (antibiotics).
