OK to take pain meds: Antibiotics often take 48 hours to fight the infection enough to reduce the pain that you are experiencing. It is safe to take acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen orally in addition to the antibiotic as needed for pain. Augmentin is highly recommended as a first line med for ear infection, but if you do not get relief in 3 days, please return for reevaluation.
