My dad's had dementia for a while but recently developed new symptoms:shaking, high levels anxiety, motor mouth, inability to rest or settle.how to help?

Confirm diagnosis: If alzheimer's, could be experiencing agitation, and perhaps akathisia reaction from medications. But the shaking, and some of the additional issues raise questions of a diffuse lewy body dementia. Also, a stroke may have provide added decompensation. Meds are best decided once confirmation achieved.

Psychiatric symptoms: These types of neuropsychiatric symptoms are very common in people with dementia. Making sure your loved one gets enough exercise and eats and drinks healthily are important. If the symptoms continue to worsen or are affecting quality of life see a geriatric psychiatrist for help.
