Is azithromycin the only antibiotic to be used for typhoid fever ?

Yes.: The only reasons that you would not do this is if the person has sepsis (blood stream infection from typhoid fever) or is allergic to the medication. Single-agent treatment with Azithromycin is a standard therapy, even in most multiply-resistant strains.
