Normal temp: He does not have a fever. He may be crabby due to being sleepy. Try to settle him down with a warm bath, soothing music perhaps read him a story. This can be a challenging age group to get to sleep.

Thermometers: Certainly the temperature is not high (<100.5) and that is reassuring. You might want to try another thermometer: either one for ear or under that arm. I do not recommend doing rectal temperatures on 2 year olds. They are not cooperative enough and it could be dangerous. Being crabby could be the early sign of illness so watch closely for other signs and symptoms.
