Depends : It may not be unusual if the colonospcy is medically necessary and indicated, and was recommended and requested by your non-gi doctor. Examples would be ibd, lower GI bleeding, malignancy and many more. If the referral was just for a GI consultation and not for colonoscopy, you should keep asking questions. Most likely this is a "gi consult & colo".
