A member asked:

My gi doc ordered me an ab ultrasound for today. colonoscopy in two weeks just to "ease my mind". is that a long time and is an ab utrs reliable?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Colonoscopy: Is the best test to look for colon cancer or polyps. Two weeks is a reasonable time to wait to do a colonoscopy, especially if the GI doctor thinks you are low risk. Abdominal ultrasound was probably not ordered to look at the colon directly. Ultrasound is reliable for evaluating many of the abdominal organs including the liver, gallbladder, spleen and kidneys.
