Could be nerve: You describe 2 sensations of numbness and pain. Compression directly or indirectly of the nerves around the ankle can cause numbness on the foot. This can be from a tendinitis, a sprain, a fracture or can be positional. Hard to know without an exam. See a podiatrist for a proper workup and evaluation.
