Talk to your doctor: Some apprehension or anxiety before a major operation is a normal human reaction. Let your doctor or the assistant know about your concerns. Talking them through may be enough. They can decide if you need something more. The anesthesiologist can give medication on the day of surgery, but only after you have signed all the permission forms (that is for your protection, so that you are alert then).
