Ant muscle group: This depends on whether this symptom is caused by any physical activity (sport, exercise) or injury. Absent any of these factors, pain in the anterior lower leg and ankle muscles is due to one of 2 conditions: 1/ tendinitis or strain of the anterior muscle group (edl, ta muscles) in the leg, or 2/ shin splints. Shin splints (pain at mid shin) are usually caused by walking uphill/ uneven terrain.
