Frenum: The "skin" between your two upper and two lower teeth is called a frenum. Sometimes dentists recommend its removal either when it contributes to loss of attached gingiva and subsequent periodontal problems or in conjunction with orthodontic treatment to close the space between the two front teeth. The procedure is called a frenectomy.

Gap teeth: There's a reason for the gap.It may be a tooth size discrepancy (top 4 front teeth too small), improper tooth position (malocclusion),and/or improper size/attachment/placement of the "maxillary labial frenum." Staging correction so that you are not left with a gap between teeth requires careful planning. Before doing anything consult w your Dentist, a Periodontist, and an Orthodontist.
