Much less sore: Once you take out the infected tooth, the body can get to the infection effectively and eliminate the cause of the pain. It should get comfortable very quickly.

Yes: Just like removing an infected splinter would continue to be sore for a while as it heals an extraction site of a tooth will be sore. Many times it will be a great relief from acute pain as the source of the infection has been removed and pressure from the abscess gone. It still takes time for the tissues injured by infection and trauma of extraction to mend. Soreness is expected.

Possible: After an infected tooth is removed, you might still have some tenderness/discomfort with the gum tissue, but the actual extraction site should be fine. Your dentist might prescribe an antibiotic prior to the extraction or at the time of the extraction to help reduce bacterial populations, which will in turn, reduce post-extraction pain.
