A member asked:

What can lasers do to increase the height of gum recessed teeth that could result in less pain, etc., if at all?

Well...: If you're talking about adding gum tissue, you can't really do that with a laser. Theoretically there are some treatments where a laser can be used to desensitize exposed root surfaces. I say 'theoretically' because i've tried this with patients and have had very limited success.

Laser tx: Laser therapy can be useful in creating new attachment to teeth where the attachment of the gum and bone to the tooth has been lost, over time this can appear to heighten the gums, but this is not from simple recession and will not be esthetically significant in many cases. Laser desensitization is somewhat successful if done properly and may need more than 1 or 2 treatments.
