The basic issue: Severe anxiety is what drives the alcoholic to drink alcohol (a potent anxiolytic). Sometimes anxiety is expressed as "control issues", and inflexibilty, and an inability to "go with the flow". Anxiety has been shown to run in families. So, the answer is yes. If you live with someone who suffers from alcoholism, get to al-anon, or go to aa meetings that are "open meetings".
