A member asked:

How typical are alcoholic delusions?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not sure what you: mean by "alcoholic delusions." Delusions are false beliefs, usually ones that the person cannot, even with every effort, be brought to understand are false. True delusions are a sign of psychosis. THOSE delusions are not typical of alcoholism. Defense mechanisms like denial, minimizing, rationalizing, intellectualizing etc are similar to delusions, but they know they aren't true deep down.
