Brain rewiring: With addictions the brain has been "hijacked" our prefrontal cortex is responsible for judgement, decision making, and weighing risks and consequences. In addiction there is a part of the brain that feels the reward of alcohol above all else, literally thinks its necessary for survival. These signals are send directly to the prefrontal cortex and what seems "crazy to you" is logical to them.
