Different types of : Doctors have different approaches. Many psychiatrists today specialize in medication as a treatment for mental health. If you are interested in therapy, you can ask your psychiatrist for a referral to a psychologist or social worker. Or you can just find one on your own, try psychologytoday.Com.

What kind of doc?: Not all doctors practice the same way, and not all have the same training. Most primary care physicians would not have the time or training to provide talk therapy, but could more easily prescribe lorazepam. Depending on what your insurance company allows also, psychiatrists might write a prescription at the same time as referring for talk therapy -- but they're trained to provide that also.
