Yes: Type 2 diabetes is not generally a contraindication for breast implantation. However, depending on the severity of the illness, wound healing is sometimes slower in patients with diabetes. As with any surgery, you should have your sugars under good control. High sugars increase the risk of infection and poor wound healing. Surgeon and pcp (or endocrinologist) should be working together.

Get fully informed: People with diabetes of any type should consult with both an internist and a surgeon before undergoing elective surgery (such as breast augmentation). In general, they are at higher risk of some complications from the procedure like infection as well as more likely to have problems with wound healing, etc. I will share this question with doctors who care for patients with conditions like diabetes.

Easy Answer "Yes": The easy answer to that question is "yes", but...Diabetes is not a contraindication to having breast implants placed, but your diabetes and your weight need to be under control. Under control means a bmi of 30 or less and an hba1c (blood test) of 6-7. Complications start rising when you go over those numbers.

If...: If you are overweight or obese with diabetes type-insulin resistant; please try to lose the weight before implants not only will your breasts change-less fat-but the type of implant ie size could change and a "lift" may be needed to achieve the result you wish to achieve. So, as an addendum, please try your best to lose the weight-thereby making your blood sugar better and then consider the surgery.

Infections increased: You can have augmentation if a diabetic but you must maintain strict sugar control after surgery. This will also improve your healing.

Diabetic implants: Yes, it is possible. However, due to the diabetes, you are at higher risk for complications including infection or poor wound healing. Perioperative management is important and keep all physicians (surgeon, anesthesiologist, primary care and endocrinologist) informed of your medical condition.

Sometimes: People with diabetes, if well controlled and have other stable medical conditions, can have elective surgery such as breast implants. You medical doctor should do a complete history and physical and other diagnostic tests to determine what risk category you are. Lastly, people with diabetes tend to have a higher risk of infection and poor wound healing with diabetes.

Breast Implant Info: Yes you can. As with any elective surgery, you should make sure you're doctor is aware od any active health issues. Diabetes can affect your capacity for healing and fighting infection, but breast augmentation can typically still be performed safely and effectively.

Probably: Diabetics have higher infection rates and poorer healing in general but as long as you are otherwise healthy and your diabetes is in good control there is no absolute reason you cannot have the surgery. Best to discuss with whomever cares for your diabetes.

Very Likely Yes: While i would ask your physician if this is ok in your case, there are plenty of diabetics with breast implants.

Depends: If you are otherwise healthy and your glucose tends to be well controlled, then this may be a possibility in your future. You are likely still at higher risk for infections and wound healing problems. Discuss this further with your plastic surgeon and internist.
