Yes: To answer your question simply, yes that is in normal range for cea. However, a normal CEA does not mean a person does or does not have a cancer. It does become useful to trend and monitor for recurrence in patients with colon cancer, especially if they previously had an elevated level.

The value is: Normal. There is no reason to get a CEA - - it is not a screening test. High levels are seen in some cancers, and they may monitor treatment, more for failure than success. This is a good example of how we squander medical resources.

Did or do you...: ...Have cancer? Cea is used to monitor response to therapy in patients with active cancer (mostly colon but also lung or breast). It does not go up in all cancer patients, it can go up in patients without cancer, levels are not comparable between patients, and it is certainly not a screening test. It is to be used in the right context by your doc. All that being said, 0.5 is "normal".
