Depends: Most 17 year olds have temporary illnesses that will spontaneously clear with time and reasonable supportive care. If your son has a problem requiring a doctor visit than you will likely want to accompany him to find out and give assistance. You might want to call your doctor and see what he/she thinks about the need for an office visit.
