Sign of injury: Bruising is due to blood under the skin in the tissue and occurs when blood vessels are torn/injured. Usually due to an injury sometimes blood vessels can break spontaneously and occasional bruising without injury can be due to a bleeding problem where your blood does not clot normally. If the condition persists or worsens se your doctor for starters.

Apply ice: A contusion can hurt for that period of time and swelling could still be present. The ice will help the swelling go down. Alternatively, you could soak in hot water and epsom salt (don't burn yourself) or you could do both ice and heat. Either or both will help reduce the swelling...Or should assuming all you have is a contusion.
