A member asked:

What's my life expectancy as a diabetic? i'm 35.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on control: If you ask an actuarialist they will likely say it is decreased compared to normal, but they are looking at populations of people, many of whom do not take care of themselves. If you maintain good diabetes control (hba1c <7%), avoid hypoglycemia, have good BP control, diet, and exercise, there is every reason to believe your life expectancy is the same as a non-diabetic.
