A member asked:

This may be a strange question, but is prescription toothpaste and protein shakes ok things to use in the days leading up to liposuction? thanks.

Follow directions : Follow the instructions given by the liposuction group. The most commonly prescribed perscription toothpaste is one that contains fluoride. This is ok for you to continue to use before your procedure. As for protein shakes and other dietary things ask the liposuction group for dietary recommendations.

Yes: No problem with these items. Ask your surgeon if you have questions about this sort of thing. Avoid aspirin, motrin, advil, vitamin e, blood thinners, and smoking.

Balanced diet: I would be concerned about the composition of the shakes. These should be well balanced in terms of vitamins, minerals, protein, fats and carbohydrates.

No Problem.: Generally speaking, there should be no problem using the toothpaste for protein shakes prior to surgery. Best wishes.

Okay: Rx toothpaste is fine before having surgery. You most likely need the extra anti-cavity protection if you're written a rx.

For what?: If you brush your teeth with the toothpaste that is fine. Discuss the protein shakes with the doctor doing the procedure. Often those shakes are used to gain weight and I doubt that your doctor wants you to gain weight before having liposuction.
