No not too young: If the cataract is interfering with your life style, it is time to remove it. Intraocular lens technology is outstanding and the lens easily lasts a lifetime. Plus with diabetes it is essential that the retina specialist can see your retina, and the cataract can block that. So if you have a cataract and it is blocking your vision, go for it. Just make sure you go to a very experienced surgeon.

No: I agree a second opinion is always good if you have any concerns. Diabetes is associated with the early development of a specific type of cataract, so it is not unusual. More importantly, even in a perfect cataract surgery case, diabetes inside the eye may worsen. So, when the cataract is ready, it is preferable to perform the surgery earlier, when diabetes in the eye is minimal.
