Normal: It takes 3-4 weeks for the soft tissue to heal and 6-8 weeks for the hard tissue to heal after an extraction. These numbers increase with age, the extraction of multiple teeth or increased difficulty of extractions, when patients have chronic medical issues like diabetes, osteoporosis or autoimmune problems or are heavy smokers.

Fragment: If it is truly mobile, you probably have a small bony fragment that has detached during or shortly after the extraction. It may also be a small fragment of tooth. If it feels mobile but is actually attached you might be feeling a small sharp piece of bone that is not covered by the soft tissues. You have two options, wait and watch as these things usually resolve on their own or see your dentist.
