It could be either: This is the typical dilema for a parent and I have been there many times. The only way to know for sure if the two symptoms are related is to see a pediatrician. He\she can examine her and more specifically look inside her ear. It has to be seen to know for sure.

Could be many things: The nerve supply to the ear drum is the same for the jaw, so some kids will think they have ear issues when they teethe. Some kids will rub their ears as they accumulate a little ear fluid, which is not an infection but more like what you feel when you can't pop your ears. If the kid doesn't have a fever or other sx suggesting an infection, i would just use comfort meds and monitor.

Common : This is very common during teething. If there are no other signs of infection such as a fever, just treat this with tylenol (acetaminophen) as you would other pains. If there is a high fever, then you should see the pediatrician. Teething can be hard for some kids, but we all get thru it.
