Yes, no: A large body of research shows that the vast majority of americans have suboptimal levels of many vitamins & minerals & that taking a multivitamin can help prevent heart disease, strokes, cancer, osteoporosis & degenerative neurological diseases like parkinson's & alzheimer's.Even the conservative mainstream ama advises all adults take a multivitamin! it's important to choose a good one-see comment:.

Vitamins are not a substitute for a healthy diet. Rather than hinder absorption, vitamins can improve digestion and the ability to absorb vitamins & minerals from food. While a B complex is good. many people are deficient in A, C, E, D, zinc, magnesium etc. so a multivitamin will help more than just a B complex. In fall and winter everyone should take 5-8,000 iu of Vit D to achieve optimal levels. Some multivits are better than others- for independent ratings of 101 brands see http://multivitaminguide.org/
