Lipomas: Lipomas are usually removed with simple excision. That means we cut it out. Depending on the size, this can be done with local anesthesia or local and sedation. This is usually an outpatient procedure. In some cases the lipoma can come back. This will require a final surgery to remove the remnant that recurred. Usually that is the final surgery.

Not sure: I'm not sure what a post traumatic lipoma is but the best treatment for lipomas is complete excision. With excision, you remove the entire lipoma and capsule. With lipo, small amounts may remain. Also, insurance will likely cover excision but lipo might be difficult to get covered.

-: Lipo may work, but excision is probably more effective and less costly.

Excision vs lipo: For some large lipomas or lipomas with indistinct walls, liposuction is a reasonable option as a bridge sometimes for the possible open procedure down the line. See plastic surgeon.
