Sunlight, supplement: Vitamin d is produced in the skin in response to uv radiation. Careful daily exposure to sunlight for 15 minutes may help increase your vitamin d. An over the counter supplement containing 400 to 1000 units of vitamin d can also help. For severe deficiency, especially when associated with bone problems like osteoporosis, a prescription supplement called Ergocalciferol is necessary.
