Depends...: It depends on what kind of arthritis you're talking about. How many and which joints are involved helps figure this out. Osteoarthritis can be considered wear and tear and those changes generally don't go away if it gets severe, although symptoms can be managed with medicine and lifestyle changes. Yes: Yes---we have nothing to reverse arthritis except for surgery to replace a joint. Depending on your type, your symptoms can wax and wane where you are treated as needed or you may need daily medications or if autoimmune, you may require immunosuppressive agents to keep it in remission.
