I had mri in throastic spine in june showed arthritis and bulging disc. back is still hurting. could it be cancer? doesn't hurt when resting.

Yes It could.: Cancer in the vertebrae (back bone) can exist and cause a mass to bulge into the spinal canal and look like a benign disc bulge. Mri images are usually clear enough to tell doctors if you have a benign disc bulge associated with arthritis or something suspect for cancer. Benign disc disease is more common in the lumbar spine (low back) while the thoracic spine (upper back) needs more scrutiny.
