Minimal: The I.V. Placement will be a needle stick - often the site is injected with a local anesthetic first, but that is still a needle stick. People tend to worry a lot about the I.V. - very few have significant pain with it.

Rarely: It is a very minor part of an operation, with a specialized nurse usually using a small needle with little or no discomfort during its insertion. If there is any feeling, it very very brief and very quickly over.
