Carpal : Carpal tunnel syndrome is typically experienced as the hand "falling asleep" with numbness and tingling, mostly involving the thumb, index, and middle fingers. Some people will also have wrist pain with it. Early, mild cases do not require surgery, but more advanced cases will. It is best to see a certified hand surgeon for a full nerve evaluation, as more things than just carpal tunnel syndrome can cause the symptoms. A related condition, cubital tunnel syndrome is also common and involves the small finger (pinky) and often the ring finger. It requires surgery less often.
