Impaired fasting glu: Although there is no precise definition for "pre-diabetes", it is commonly used in people with impaired fasting glucose (between 100-125), or impaired glu tolerance (2 hr glu of 140-199 after glu tolerance test) or someone with a strong family history and/or multiple features of metabolic syndrome. All of these are predictors of eventual type 2 diabetes.
