A member asked:

What are simple definitions for each of the types of diabetes and what causes them?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Elevated blood sugar: Type 1 diabetes is caused by a destruction in Insulin producing cells. Adult (or type 2) diabetes is more common as you get older, if you have a family history of diabetes -- and is 70-90% related to weight. As you gain weight you become more resistant to Insulin until your pancreas is overwhelmed. It's the only risk factor you can control.
