Cannot diagnose: But sounds a little like costochondritis, and may benefit from nsaids. Go see a thoracic surgeon or pulmonary doctor and have them examine you.

Cause, see physician: Musculoskeletal trauma (knowingly or unaware) is common cause including muscle strains, rib contusions or fractures. Costochondritis or inflammation in anterior ribs can be quite painful and is self limiting. Shingles, viral infection, most often appears as a single stripe of blisters that can wrap around torso in distribution of rib. Pleurisy, inflammation of lining of lungs, can cause rib pain.
