A member asked:

Are some people more prone to getting diverticulitis?

Yes: One could chuck this one up to hereditary but it is more appropriately related to constipation. High pressures withing the colon on the left side may produce ballooning of the inner lining of the colon through weak points in the wall. The bubbles fill with undigestible particles and may get infected and pop a leak.

Constipation: People who have chronic or frequent constipation seem to be more susceptible to diverticulitis. There are many other good reasons to get evaluated to correct constipation. Problems, including but not limitted to, are hemorrhoids, fissures, and colorectal cancer.
